Dumbest Move Ever

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I got home a little bit early so that I could eat, stretch, and then get to my hockey game without rushing.  It’s the playoffs after all.  I got home maybe a little bit too early!  With some time to kill before dinner, I decided to play a few minutes of WiiFit which I had borrowed from Ben.  After a few minutes of same old exercises, I unlocked the Snowboard Slalom.  Cool!  First time through, I missed a bunch of the gates which resulted in time penalties.  Second time through, I got an even slower time than my first attempt.  I kept trying over and over again, but I wasn’t getting any better.  So after, I finished my last run, I hopped off the WiiFit board and kicked the sofa in frustration.  It wasn’t even a hard kick.  It’s just that I was expecting the sofa to be very soft, but found a spot that was very hard.  It felt like I had stubbed my toe.  But when the pain wouldn’t subside I knew it was much, much worse.  I guess I get to visit the doctor’s office tomorrow to figure out how badly I hurt my big toe on my left foot.  Oh boy, I can’t wait to tell my teammates why I missed our playoff game.

Another Break-in Attempt?

Friday, November 30th, 2007

A little past 7PM, while on my way home from work, I got a call from my home security system alerting me that the alarm had been set off.  Could it be another attempted break-in?  It was just about one year ago when someone attempted to break into my house.  No way!  Our family has had this house for thirty years without an incident.  There was just no way that we could have two attempted break-ins in two consecuitve years.  I rushed home as quickly as I could, but I was still about 10 minutes away.  When I got home the siren was still blaring, so I figured if there was a thief he would have been long gone by now. But I grabbed one of my hockey sticks just in case. When I checked the security system, it revealed to me that the master bedroom motion detector had been set off. That’s odd, since one of the doors or windows had to be breached if it was due to a thief. I made my way into the bedroom and noticed Alice’s birthday balloons were swaying in front of the motion detector. The alarm must have been set off when the heater kicked on. I guess I shouldn’t have put those balloons there. Man, I gave myself quite a scare!

DIY Shutters

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Alice and I wanted shutters instead of curtains or blinds for our windows, but having shutters professionally installed can get quite expensive.  Blinds.com offered pre-assembled shutters for the do-it-yourselfers, so I figured I would try it on one window and see how it would work out.  If it goes well, then I would continue with the DIY project.  If not, I would give in and hire a professional.  The custom-made Hunter Douglas vinyl shutter that I ordered a few weeks ago finally arrived, and I installed it in the master bathroom.  I have to admit, it was quite easy to install.  So if I Alice approves, I will be doing all the windows myself.

Picked up our keys today, so Alice and I are officially homeowners.  We are excited, but not too excited.  I think it will hit us more once we start moving in.  It won’t be for a while though since we are planning some additional upgrades before we move in.

Home Sweet Home

On My Feet All Day

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Yesterday I had my work cubicle reconfigured into a standing cubicle.  This gives me the option to alternate between standing and sitting, which should alleviate the stress on my back.  Unfortunately, they didn’t give me a tall chair yet, so I’ve been on my feet all day.  It kind of defeats the purpose, so hopefully, I’ll get my chair soon.  One other thing.  After six straight days of feeling good, my back started to bother me again last night.  I’m not ready to blame the new cubicle configuration yet; especially since it’s still missing one of the key ingredients.
